I’m wanting to go on vacation.
Badly.
I want our little family of three to have some uninterrupted time together for a few days. Arle’s three now and we’ve never been on a true family vacation…only trips to visit family, which we don’t count as “vacation” [no offense, family:)].
Trav has been working some insane hours and has put me in charge of planning a get-away.
So, here’s the deal.
Arle frequently talks about wanting to go to the beach, so we’ve decided this is the perfect time.
Here’s the problem.
We aren’t beach-y people and are pretty clueless about where to go.
We have to go somewhere that we can use our Starwood points, so that our hotel is free [only way we can actually afford a vay-cay right now].
I need your help. Where should we go? What’s your favorite beach in the ol’ U.S. of A?
Comments, please!

Destin, Florida! Charles and I went and stayed at Gulfview Condos right across from the beach – had a wonderful time! Can go to resortquest.com and plenty of places to stay. White sand – lots of fun.

If you can go the week of August 23rd, I have a one bedroom condo (with a queen wall-bed in the living room for Arle) for FREE right on the beach in Maui, Hawaii. LOVE that place! Just say the word and you can use it :)

I am a Northwesterner, so I say Washington or Oregon.

I would avoid any gulf coast beaches, unless you enjoy blobs of crude & gooey birds. :(

I’m with Bethany on So Cal! Mom and I took the kids to Redondo Beach, Manhattan Beach, and down to San Diego a couple of years ago to visit my grandmother. It was great. Mom and I loved strolling the strand looking at all the amazing homes there. If you went there you could hit up Sea World, which my kiddos LOVED (Karis was Arle’s age at the time), and Disneyland, which we didn’t go to because the kids were too young. Happy vay cay shopping!

Grammy’s offer would be really hard to turn down!! I absolutely love San Diego, one of the most beautiful cities in America with year round fabulous weather and so much to do and see!! I have to agree about the Gulf right now which is so sad and I know they are needing people to keep coming. Keep in touch with the weather channel if you go East since it’s hurricane season. The beach we are definitely wanting to return to with friends is Roatan, Honduras. Absolutely gorgeous beach, condos, the Blue, Blue water and the food and people make it one of the most relaxing and laid back destinations ever!

As much as we would LOVE to go to Hawaii, plane tix to get there are crazy expensive. Your offer is MUCH appreciated, Grammy, but we’re going to have to take a rain check this time. Boo:(
Keep the ideas coming, everyone! I love hearing all of your opinions and am researching like a mad-woman.

We have friends that went to Destin and said no problem – there is a web site to go to and get updates. But San Diego is AWESOME – and with the heat down here you probably should go there – Seaworld, Zoo, lots of fun things to do.

Oh, I agree with Suzanne! San Diego is so lovely, great weather. Drive north just a ways and stay in Laguna Beach. An absolutely heavenly place. Then north onto Manhattan Beach and walk along the strand! Ocean pounding on one side and the most amazing homes on the other, so close you could shake hands with the folks inside. The ocean always soothes me! Arle would love it Arle is young enough you could wait until first part of September and things wouldn’t be so crowded. I am not much on crowds! Love you xoxo

We have a beach and we are within driving distance. (does Lake Michigan count?)
