Make-Muck & Such

Because I can’t think of anything better to write about today, I decided I would share my top 10 must-have beauty products with you. These are the products that have been with me for years.  The tried and true.  The ones that send me into convulsions if I find myself without them.  The ones that make me feel a little less blotchy and puffy, a little more glowy and smooth.

1.  Rosebud Strawberry Lip Balm – I have tins of this miracle balm stashed everywhere.  Purses, kitchen cabinet, bedside table, makeup bag, etc.  I’ve been using it for five years and haven’t had dry lips since.  Every night when Trav and I get in bed, he automatically gets it out of the drawer and opens it up so I can get one last hit for the day.  He’ll totally be embarrassed that I told you this, but he even uses a little dab every night….shhhhhh, don’t tell.

2.  Bobbi Brown Oil-Free Even Finish Compact Foundation – This makeup (or “make-muck” as Arle calls it), is the best foundation EVER.  Bobbi understands the plight of those of us with yellow undertones and her make-muck saves the day.  No more “pink-face, yellow-neck syndrome” for me.  I apply it with her fantastic Foundation Brush for an easy-breezy complexion boost.

3.  Bobbi Brown Face Powder (in Pale Yellow) – What good would it do for me to go over my yellow-undertone foundation with a pink-undertone powder?  Enter Bobbi Brown.  Again, she comes to the rescue with a loose powder that matches my skin to perfection.  One tub of this stuff lasts me almost a year and is worth every penny.

4.  St. Ives Blemish & Blackhead Control Apricot Scrub – I know, I know, many magazines bash this scrub for being too harsh, but I’m convinced that they just want us all to go out and spend a lot of $$$ on other scrubs.  For me, St. Ives works.  Plain and simple.

5.  Roc Retinol Correxion Eye Cream – I’ve used this for a few years now.  I started using it because I wanted to prevent eye wrinkles.  It seems to be working…or maybe I just haven’t reached the eye-wrinkle age, yet.  Who knows, but I’ll keep using it as long as I am eye-wrinkle-free.  If only I had taken preventative measures for my forehead wrinkles…

6.  Aveda Confixor Liquid Gel – Whether I’m wearing my hair straight or curly, Confixor is always there to help me achieve the perfect coiffe.  It’s super light-weight and smells fab.

7.  Nivea Skin Firming Moisturizer Q10 Plus – Love, love, love this lotion.  The smell, the texture, the everything.

8.  Bliss Clog Dissolving Cleansing Milk – This stuff is fab for taking off your make-muck at the end of the day.  And, as an added bonus, it actually exfoliates at the same time.  A little goes a long way, so one bottle of this miracle cleanser will last a few months.  P.S.  If you ever have a chance to actually go to a Bliss Spa, DO IT.  You won’t regret it.  They know how to pamper a girl.

9.  Marilyn Volumizing Brush – This is truly a wonder brush.  It turns my curly locks into a smooth, straight ‘do in no time.

10.  Jergens Natural Glow Moisturizer – While I can’t say this product is fun to use, I will say it’s one that I always have on hand.  Whenever I’m feelin’ a bit pasty and don’t have time to make a visit to the Tan Van, I can always pull this out and feel like I have at least a hint of color.

Now it’s your turn.  What is your can’t-do-without beauty product?  Do tell…

Until I turned 50, my main cosmetic for taking off makeup, moisturizing my eyes, my hands, my elbows, my feet, and everything in between was Vaseline! Not very glamorous but it works. I thought I had to go more expensive for some reason in my old age, so now I use Oil of Olay daily regenerating serum for the face and for the eyes, not terribly expensive but every bit as good as the more costly ones. Lancome’s Bi-Facil eye makeup remover is fabulous because it easily removes my favorite mascara (forever) Maybelline’s Great Lash waterproof. I absolutely agree with you about Nivea Skin Firming Moisturizing Q10, for every reason you mentioned. I also think the major cosmetic firms try to demean St. Ive’s, I love their Apricot Invigorating Scrub. Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate. My favorite foundation for many years now is Estee Lauder’s Double Wear. The best thing a woman can do for her face is avoid too much sun on it, and avoid alcoholic beverages and cigarettes and don’t forget a sincere smile.

I loved your list. Can’t wait to try some of them. When it comes to beauty products I have major ADD. I’m always trying different things. Mostly b/c I’m searching for cheaper alternatives to the expensive stuff I love. There are a few that are always with me, though. I’m with Your Mother on the Maybelline Great Lash mascara except mine is not waterproof. My next must-have would make dermatologists everywhere cringe, a baby wipe for those many nights I fall asleep watching TV on the couch and am too sleepy to wash my face. Terrible, I know, but it gets everything off, including mascara. For super-dry cuticles, lips, hands, elbows, heels, nips ;), etc., an emergency fix that’s fantastic is Lansinoh lanolin breast cream. I still keep a tube around. My number one must-have is my Shu Uerma eyelash curler from my mom. If all else fails, I can always run out of the house with a bit of under-eye concealer and a bit of my Great Lash mascara on my expertly curled eyelashes. Thanks for this fab list.
P.S. I also agree with Your Mother on wearing a sincere smile. I might even take some laugh lines gracefully in exchange for years of laughter and sincere joy!
