For some bizarre reason, it’s 12:01 a.m. and I’m still wide awake. This is VERY abnormal for me. I was usually the first one at slumber parties to fall asleep. I usually fall asleep on the couch every night while my night owl husband channel surfs. I even fell asleep at the movie theater this past Friday night when Trav and I went on a date. Do you get my drift??? I’M A GIRL THAT NEEDS MY ZZZZZZZZ’S. For me to be up this late without a) company arriving tomorrow or b) a sick child is simply unheard of.
Lately, I’ve had this urgent need to create. I daydream about painting, sewing, decorating, or anything else that may allow my creative juices to flow. So, today I went to Hobby Lobby and stocked up on all sorts of goodies and have decided to start making Arle’s hair-bows. I’ve been spending a small fortune on these stupid things at a local boutique even though I know I can make them myself, but have an uncanny way of coming up with fabulous ideas (at least I think they are, and I’m sure my Mother would agree) and never actually doing anything to bring them to fruition. I bought a few spools of ribbon a while back and creatively came home and stuck them in the back of a closet and forgot about them.
Move over old Heather and HELLO new Heather!
Here I am, way past my bedtime, and I have made my first hair-bow. I considered going in to wake up Arle, dressing her up, and making her model my new creation for a pic, but have instead decided that Chloe will have to do. Chloe is Arle’s doll and looks fab in Arle’s homemade, brand spankin’ new hair-bow. Granted, it looks a bit large on Chloe’s noggin, but the point is just for you to actually see the bow.
So, without further ado (drum-roll, please)…

I definitely have room for improvement, here…the top right is a bit sparse and I feel like it needed more of the striped ribbon, but still I’m pretty happy with it for my first go. I also think I’ll bake the ribbon a bit longer the next time, in order to get a tighter curl, but it’s a start. I really had fun with it and am excited to make some different styles. Maybe I’ll turn this into a business and I’ll be known as the Bow Lady and I’ll make millions…or billions…
I definitely have a feeling that Arle will just happen to wear an outfit tomorrow that will just happen to need a bow that looks just like this one. Don’t worry, I’ll post a pic of my darling daughter donning her new darling bow.
Now, it’s 12:39 a.m. I’m going to bed.

This is so creative and attractive. I don’t have a Martha Stewart gene in me. I wish I could do something like this when I can’t sleep. Mostly I write in the wee hours of the morning. Good luck Bow Lady!

I TOTALLY agree with you, and your creative juices have produced a darling and one-of-a-kind piece of artwork. As always, “that’s my girl”!

love it! you just might need to make some for a sweet little girl named kate :). or maybe you can teach me how. the headband/bow i have for kate she hates – she cries the second it touches her head. i need to figure out a softer/less pressure/she’ll actually wear it version so she can be cute like arle! :0

Bake the ribbon, not the bow. You have to wrap the ribbon around a dowel rod (sp?) and bake it in order for it to curl:)

Oh, no!! You’ve become a member of “the one who dies with the most ribbon wins” club!! That also goes for fabric, yarn, glitter, paint, glass, beads… uhhhh…. that would be….uhhhh….me? Sorry, gotta go make something………..!!!
The bow is awesome! Creative juices and “night owl” go together.
